The Mountain Side of Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta’s southern road traces the meeting of mountains and sea. This journey follows it before turning inland, where forest tracks replace the coastal pavement. Traveling together in a Polaris RZR brings a shared sense of discovery to the changing terrain, while a walk to the waterfall leaves time to appreciate the forest at a slower pace.

THE EXPERIENCE

How the Day Unfolds

Experience the different scenarios you’ll encounter during your adventure, discover unforgettable places, and collect the best memories

Check in and travel along the coast

Arrive at your assigned meeting point at least 45 minutes before departure. Complete registration and driver checks, then board the yellow Unimog. The sightseeing drive passes through Puerto Vallarta and follows the southern coastal road toward the mountains.
Prepare at the mountain base camp

Meet the guides for the safety briefing and vehicle introduction. Put on your helmet and goggles, settle into the RZR and fasten your seat belt. Drivers must be at least 18 with a valid full license; no more than two drivers may share a vehicle.
Follow the RZR route through the forest

Travel behind the guide along dirt tracks, rocky sections, tight bends and hills. Creek crossings and tropical vegetation bring the landscape close to the vehicle as drivers follow instructions and passengers enjoy the changing surroundings.
Walk to the waterfall

Park the vehicles and continue on foot along a mountain trail. Spend time beside the waterfall, listening to the water and enjoying the forest. Enter the natural pool when conditions and the guide permit, then walk back to the RZRs.
Complete the ride and return

Resume the off-road route before returning the vehicles and equipment. Pause for the included fresh fruit and purified water, then rejoin the arranged transfer to your confirmed return point.

The Experience

See the Experience

Guests gather at the departure point, meet their guide and settle aboard a yellow Unimog. Conversation begins as the truck moves through Puerto Vallarta, passing colorful streets and glimpses of public art. Beyond the Romantic Zone, the road follows the southern coastline. Between the trees, the bay opens into view, with Los Arcos rising from the water. After passing Boca de Tomatlán, the journey turns inland. Buildings give way to wooded slopes, and the group arrives at a mountain base camp surrounded by tropical vegetation. Guides welcome everyone, explain the route and help fit helmets and goggles. The adult drivers become familiar with the controls while their companions settle into the passenger seats and fasten their seat belts.

The approach is an integral part of this experience. Traveling south connects several distinct parts of Puerto Vallarta: the streets around the center, the neighborhoods beyond the Cuale River and the coastal road toward Mismaloya. Los Arcos appears offshore along this route. These views form part of the overland journey; allow separate time if you would like to explore the waterfront or spend longer in the neighborhoods you pass.
In the mountains, the character of the day changes with the terrain. Dry conditions can bring dusty stretches, while rain can leave the tracks muddy. Forest cover, creek levels and the appearance of the waterfall also vary through the seasons. The landscape is best approached with an openness to the conditions of the day.
The RZR’s shared seating makes the journey social. Passengers can enjoy the surroundings while the driver follows the guide through each section of the route. For companions interested in taking turns, agree on the eligible drivers before setting out so that the arrangements are clear at the briefing.
The waterfall stop introduces a different pace. Walking draws attention to details that are easy to pass while driving: birdsong, leaves moving overhead and the sound of water becoming stronger along the trail. Leave some flexibility after the return journey for changing clothes and settling back into the city before evening plans.
