The Experience

See the Experience

Follow a day at Las Caletas, beginning with the boat journey across Banderas Bay. Views from the deck introduce the southern coastline, where wooded hills descend toward the water and small coves appear along the shore. The approach offers the first glimpse of the beach, framed by tropical vegetation. On land, the focus moves between the different ways guests spend their day. Families smile as they explore the grounds, couples settle into oceanfront hammocks, and friends prepare to enter the water. Snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding bring the setting into closer view, with participants wearing life jackets. The pace lifts in the adventure areas. Children explore climbing features and a suspension bridge with an accompanying adult, while eligible older guests take part in the zip lines and water attractions. Guided walks offer a quieter perspective on the vegetation and wildlife.

Understanding the setting

Las Caletas lies along the coast south of Puerto Vallarta. The destination comprises four small beaches, with rocky outcrops and tropical vegetation shaping the shoreline. That arrangement creates a series of places to explore, each offering a slightly different view of the surrounding landscape.
Arriving from the water gives a useful sense of this geography. Watch how the wooded slopes meet the shore and how the coves unfold as the boat approaches. The journey introduces the landscape before you step onto the beach.

Choosing what matters most to you

The variety of experiences rewards a little planning on arrival. Identify the activities you most want to try and check their timing with the team. Leave space between them to enjoy the setting, rather than filling every part of the visit.
For a group with different interests, it can help to agree on shared moments during the day. One person may be drawn to a cooking session while another prefers the water. Coming together over lunch gives the experience a comfortable sense of continuity.

Looking beyond the beach

The wooded surroundings add another dimension to the visit. A walk inland changes the view from open water to vegetation, shaded paths, and details that are easy to miss from the shore.
Las Caletas also has a connection to Puerto Vallarta’s cultural history: filmmaker John Huston made his home here during his later years in Mexico. Knowing that association adds context to the destination and its long appeal as a coastal retreat.

Making room for local flavors

The culinary activities provide a chance to participate in the day in a different way. Preparing food together creates an easy setting for conversation, questions, and attention to the ingredients in front of you.
For visitors interested in Mexican cooking, these moments can become a starting point for further exploration back in Puerto Vallarta, whether through a dedicated cooking class or a thoughtfully chosen restaurant.

Planning the rest of your day

Allow some flexibility around your return before arranging an evening reservation. A boat excursion feels more relaxed when the next commitment leaves enough room for disembarkation and onward travel.
If you are considering the separate evening performance at Las Caletas, plan it as another excursion. Guests must return to port between the daytime and evening visits; remaining at the beach between the two is not permitted.
