Playa Conchas Chinas is one of Puerto Vallarta’s most picturesque beaches, tucked beneath the hillside neighborhood that shares its name. Rather than one continuous stretch of sand, the shoreline is divided into several small coves separated by natural rock formations, creating a peaceful setting that feels removed from the energy of downtown while remaining only a few minutes away.
The combination of crystal-clear water, rocky outcrops, and smaller protected coves makes this one of the area’s most rewarding beaches for visitors seeking a quieter experience. During calm conditions, the clear water offers excellent opportunities to observe tropical fish around the rocks, while the surrounding scenery makes the beach especially popular with those looking to relax away from larger crowds.
Unlike Playa Los Muertos, Conchas Chinas has very little commercial activity directly on the beach. Visitors typically arrive with everything they need for the day before heading back toward the Romantic Zone or nearby neighborhoods for dining and shopping. This quieter atmosphere is exactly what many visitors appreciate most.
Because portions of the shoreline have rocky entry points and uneven footing, water shoes are recommended when exploring the coves. Conditions can also vary throughout the year, so swimmers should always observe current surf and weather before entering the water.
